About Us

In the early 1970’s, a group of lay people began worshipping at the St. Leonard Franciscan College and Seminary in Centerville, Ohio. As the group grew larger, some left to establish the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish on Wilmington Pike. Others stayed and continued to worship with the Franciscan Friars.  This group called themselves the “Sunday Community.”

In 1983, the Sunday Community began to seek recognition from the Archdiocese. In November, 1989,Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk decreed the St. Leonard Faith Community as a Quasi Parochial Public Association of the Christian Faithful. By this decree, members enjoyed full privileges as a canonically accepted association within the Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

The Friars closed their seminary in the 1980's, but the Faith Community continues to worship here.  The facility, now called St. Leonard: A Franciscan Living Community  is sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis.  St. Leonard is one of the largest Catholic sponsored senior living communities in the United States. Their unique array of distinctive, yet interrelated, mature living programs are designed to meet the individual needs of seniors seeking an alternate lifestyle in a caring and peaceful environment.

The St. Leonard Faith Community, operates autonomously from the Senior Living Center and has, as a significant part of its mission, committed itself to be actively involved as needed in the work of the Senior Living Center.  Guided by the Lord, both institutions work to provide services to the people God has placed in our care.

Mission Statement:

St. Leonard Faith Community is a freely formed Catholic community sharing in the Franciscan heritage.

We are committed to creating a spiritual environment where the Holy Spirit comes alive through active worship and the offering of our individual and collective gifts.

Through a variety of ministries, we reach out to respond to the needs of others with love.

Our mission is to live our Christian Faith, to grow spiritually, and to be actively involved within the community.
